Greek Key, Meander, Fret (Greek)One
of many variations consisting of a geometric, regular
repeating pattern. “The Grammar of Ornament” Owen Jones,
1856, plate 15 number 1 is identical in design;
described by Jones as “Simple fret, running in one
direction with a single line.
(More complicated forms with more interesting lines are
sometimes called Labyrinth Frets.)

Laurel (Greek)
A conventional form of leafed ornament
often found in Greek pottery with no attempt to imitate
nature. There are many variations of the laurel,
usually with berries, but this specific pattern is not
identified to an original sourcebook.

oval disc with a flower or leaf-like elements. “Daisy”
in hall is Greek in origin. Two in bedroom appear to be

A pattern of discs alternating with elongated beads.
Found carved in relief in Roman decoration, sometimes as
wood turned trim on furniture or as metal mounts.
Usually and properly was a line through it as in the
east bedroom. The number of reels and proportion of the
beads may vary.
