Old Stencils.com was created
out of a desire to have available authentic historical stencil
patterns for the home. While the emphasis is on historic
properties, these stencil designs (which have spanned the
decades and generations as classics) are beautiful works of art
that will work in today’s home as much as they have in homes
throughout history.
You'll learn about the stencil
artists and the buildings they decorated.
Old Stencils goes one step
further - giving you lots of inspiration, showing you
how to create gorgeous borders by layering stencil patterns with
other types of borders,
both on walls and ceilings.
As we add stencils and historical
information to this 'library' we hope you return often
to use oldstencils as a reference to help you with your old
house restoration.
Many stencils patterns are inspired by architecture. As
architectural styles have evolved, stencil designs have evolved as well. For example, there are distinct patterns only available during
colonial times. In the latter part of the 19th century,
Victorian influences are seen – adding their flare to the colonial
patterns. The early 1900’s brought with it, more contemporary artistic
designs with the Arts and Crafts or Mission style. Each stencil
pattern will note the time frame in which they were originally
used, to help you create that 'historically correct' room.
Please refer to Our Mission Statement to learn how every
purchase of a stencil pattern helps in the restoration of
historic properties. |
